Imposing King Sanusi, History Repeats Itself
Almost all commentators anticipate the incident, which is the rift between Kano governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje and King Muhammadu Sanusi II.
However, the situation has come as a surprise to many people other than the close ties with the state government.
As of 2019, neither Ganduje nor his government under the APC has done the same to King Sanusi. Supporters of the governor and other party members have criticized the king.
Some unknown assailants have filed numerous complaints against him, and at times some groups have prompted authorities to investigate the activities of the king and the monarch.
The Kano State Anti-Corruption Commission, headed by Muhayi Magaji Rimin Gado, led the investigation and invited senior government officials.
Similarly, members of the state legislature where most of the APC members have been complaining, including complaints they received last week claiming it had sold some of the state's land.
Sanusi's biggest defeat was the creation of four new monarchs in the state last year, including Bichi, Rano and Gaya.
This greatly reduced Sanusi's power from his 44-to-10-kingdom government.
At one point the government tried to restore Sanusin's name to the Emperor of Kano, something he valued at 1,000 years old.
This can be attributed to two factors. His serendipitous presence came to light, a stark contrast to his predecessor in 2014 Alhaji Ado Bayero.
While Ado Bayero has been very vocal about his 51 years in office, Sanusi is incapable of keeping quiet, and despite all the meetings he attends, leave no comments
In the northern Nigerian tradition, the emperor usually advocated and prayed for peace, but Sanusi was the speaker at almost every meeting he attended.
Unlike other emperors, he used to deliver long speeches at meetings, exchanges of knowledge, and quotes from the World Bank and Western economists, philosophers and Islamic scholars. .
His style is different from that of all northern Nigerian kings, many of whom rarely speak in public.
The big thing is that Sanusi has been popping up and addressing some of the issues that commentators only talk about in the press and in newspapers and NGOs.
There was a time when he said that northern Nigeria was practicing Islam much like the 13th century, which angered religious leaders in the area.
He criticized the fact that poor people are married to more than one woman and have many children, adding that the same tradition is perpetrated by northerners.
Such issues arise only from the intellectuals and writers of newspapers, but the emergence of such statements from the king has led to speculation in many respects.
Earlier this year, Sanusi said that parents who let their children be raped and kidnapped as a result of their careless behavior left them feeling helpless.
He has also made it clear that Ganduje and Kano lawmakers have spent more than a month in China seeking to invest in subway. They say they only spent four days.
It is believed that the words of King Sanusi have inspired him in southern Nigeria and in the southern media.
In the chaotic Nigerian politics, anything that is popular in southern Nigeria, does not necessarily have it in the north, and what is popular in the north does not necessarily have. in the south.
There are many youth in northern Nigeria on social networking sites alleging that Sanusi, who attended Kings College in Lagos, is cooperating with locals in the north.
It would seem that he would have taken part in politics had he been removed from office.
Governor Ganduje and the All Progressives Congress (APC) have defied Sanusi's support for the PDP by accusing him of financing Abba Kabir Yusuf's campaign in 2015.
Ganduje and his supporters did not publicly identify their allegations against Sanusi, but it is believed that some of the king's closest allies have reported to the APC in Kano.
But the day that seems to be the most likely is the day that Ganduje was declared the winner of the second gubernatorial election last year.
Hundreds of protesters stormed the palace and fired a picture of King Sanusi in the palace.
He could not have survived politics
However, he could have survived his crown if he had not been politically active.
Governor Ganduje and some APC leaders believe the PDP Sanusi has supported him, some even saying that he is using his money to support PDP presidential candidate Abba Kabir Yusuf House in the 2019 elections.
The evidence of Ganduje and his supporters is not known, but they may have received information from politicians and even some from Sanusi's palace.
The first sign of the crisis began on the day that Ganduje was declared the winner of the Finals referendum, where hundreds of his supporters had removed the King's statue in the wall of the government building.
Since the conflict between Ganduje and Sanusi last year, some northern governors and regional rulers under the leadership of the Sultan have distanced themselves.
According to one of the governors, because the northern governors and the northern emperors created a compromise between the two sides in 2017 but later resigned.
They accused Sanusi of breaching the terms of the agreement, saying he had violated many of the terms which were formally adopted and approved at the previous peace talks held in Kaduna.
Ganduje's close friends and advisers played a role in the crisis. They think that the Emperor needs to get rid of them since they are in power because he can harm them when they land.
In fact, on the night the governors headed for reconciliation in 2017, Ganduje faced protests from some of his closest allies, who accused him of submitting to pressure.
Some have even said that since they are facing fierce opposition from the Kwankwasiyya side, the opposition should be lessened by the Sanusi tube.
It is likely that the PDP's supporters have been agitating for Sanusi's return. Whenever he is out in public, Ganduje's youth think that the Kwankwasiyya supporters are locking his limousine.
Before the Kano State sacked Sanusi, a bill in the Kano State House of Assembly demanding the removal of the Emperor sparked controversy in which the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the House of Assembly had taken the staff's pole.
So, whether willingly or not, the crisis of APC and PDP has had a direct bearing on Sanusi's decision-making.
Muhammad Sanusi is also believed to have failed to support the leadership of the APC, President Muhammadu Buhari.
The government
As of 2015, King Sanusi has been criticizing President Buhari's economic policies or his failure to take economic measures.
At one point he said that Nigeria should not fall into the economic crisis because of falling oil prices and that the government should take the right steps.
Governor Ganduje recently led a delegation of prominent people from Kano to President Muhammadu Buhari in Abuja. But Sanusi was not seen in the squad.
At the time Buhari said he would not intervene in the crisis because the 1999 Nigerian Constitution did not allow him to do so - to intervene in traditional ceremonies.
The statement was abducted by northern leaders, led by former president General Abdulsalami Abubakar, who are trying to bring peace between the two sides - thought by the Buhari name.
Many commentators think this is a statement that allowed Ganduje to impeach Sanusi.
It is clear that the impeachment motion against the king on Monday was an attempt to prevent the court from interfering with its ruling.
Since last year, Sanusi has received numerous court orders prohibiting him from being touched.
Some of the rulings have been made, or in the case of the creation of new monarchs, the state legislature has revised its law, and amended the law.
Ganduje's strategy
It is not surprising how Ganduje stripped Sanusi and quickly announced the appointment of a new emperor before the court was involved. Case managers expect this to happen.
Alinuji Aminu Ado Bayero's acceptance of Bichi's reign, despite the fact that his family had warned him that he should not help the Kano empire, was a relief for Ganduje, as he encouraged the governor.
He was rewarded with a great reward. In spite of the fact that Alhaji Aminu Ado became king, the emperor could be admired for his intelligence and closeness to his father.
After the impeachment, the government dispatched police to evacuate the palace and take it to Nasarawa state, where it will be confined to a secluded area and reduced traffic.
This has been the case since the colonial period, when various emperors transferred to Lokoja, the capital of Kogi State.
Sanusi is expected to not comply with the restraining order.
List of great kings who have been impeached in the north in 25 years
- Muhammad Sanusi II became the third most prominent king since 1996.
- Sultan Ibrahim Dasuki was ousted in 1996
- The Emir of Gwandu Almustafa Aaron Jokolo was ousted in 2005.
This means that three of the major northern kingdoms (other than the Borno dynasty) were impeached in the last 25 years.
While Sanusi is expected to go to court to complain that the law was not followed to remove him from office, there is no doubt that Dasuki and Jokolo will be successful - without success.
Removing Sanusi from royalty is a historical fact.
The northern part of the state was abolished by King Muhammadu Sanusi I (his grandfather) in 1963, based on Muffet's study of the Kano Monetary Fund.
The birth of his grandson Muhammad Sanusi II the king after 51 years has washed away his family. Now, critics will look at the impeachment as if unlucky to the blood of King Sanusi I.
Some think the impeachment could become a hotbed for Sanusi because he could return to politics and run for president in 2023. It is a matter of waiting.
So far, Ganduje and his deputies must start thinking about how to protect what they've done - like the four more monarchs created last year.
New Emperor Aminu Ado Bayero would not like the new monarchs even though he came from them. They will be closely watched or destroyed.
